About Glynrhonwy

Glynrhonwy is an opencast mine that was taken over by the Air Ministry during the war and vastly modified.

What's there

A standard gauge railway leads under the Llanberis road (tunnel blocked though) into the bunker. The bunker consists of about 16 storage rooms, arranged in two stories, one above the other. Each room is very deep, and the whole lot is buried under a slate tip. It is a good place to go for a poke around, although it is walk in / walk out.

There is a tunnel leading out of the rear of the bunker under the mine road into another open cast quarry and on to where I don't know.
